I warmed up a blanket in the dryer and wrapped it around Gracie as she looked out her windows (her TV) today.  

It was rainy and cold. We hung out by the fire. Gracie loved her special warm blanket treat.

Nellie hung out on her baby blanket.

It was worth it.

I haven't had a TV in my bedroom for two years. I caved and bought one - the 19" HDTV deal at WalMart. Yes, I participated in a very subdued way in the Black Friday sales. The TV is set up on a tall skinny table I bought for $19 at TJMaxx.  Now I have cable and DVD capabilities in my boudoir. 

It completely rocks. I forgot how great it is to have the Food Network and CNN and the Weather Channel and such as I knit in my 1000 thread count sheets.  Another Black Friday deal - 1000 thread count sheets for $60.  I washed them to Gain perfection.

Yay! It's Thanksgiving.

Nellie is happy to go to Grandma's for Thanksgiving.

I am happy to go to Grandma's for Mrs. West's fantastic Hershey Cake.

Mrs. West - hands down - the most amazing baker in the continental USA.  I can't vouch for Hawaii and Alaska.  I can however, for the lower 48.  This woman's Carrot Cake, amazing. Her Cinnamon Loaf is scrumptious.

This chocolate cake was light yet had layers of flavor. Had lovely texture and moisture. It was held together with gossamer chocolate and cream angel threads.

Mrs. West used to be my Sunday School teacher. I love her. I love her cake.

Thanksgiving

Today is turkey day, Thanksgiving.... I love Thanksgiving. I have already had my coffee, oatmeal and peaches.  I am ready for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. And I want to say that I miss my Grandpa.

I love my Grandpa. He passed away in 2006 and he was 99.  He LOVED holidays. He just lived for celebrations and happy times.  Every Thanksgiving he would sit in his chair and watch - just like a kid - the Macy's Thanksgiving parade.  He is the person in my life who genuinely encouraged me to "Go and do things and see all sorts of things but then come back and tell me all about it".  He loved life and food and sounds and sensations. He is the first person that is gone that I miss in a visceral way. Sometimes I think I see him in people and things that happen.  I am so thankful for the 37 years I had with him loving me unconditionally.

I am thankful for you, SCR. Happy Thanksgiving to the apple of MY eye.

In 2006 my Grandfather was too sick to go to Chapel Hill for a StoryCorp taping so we hired a friend to set up professional recording equipment in my parent's home and tape him.  He had so many stories. Rich tapestries of a young man growing up in Durham who rode street cars, loved roller skates and who actually saw Buffalo Bill. I interviewed him that afternoon and gathered info about his parents, his sister and brother and how he hit the road to make money during the Depression hoping trains back home to share money with his growing family.

Whether it's the story of his mountain girl romance helping build the Blue Ridge Parkway or as running an air compressor for Italian craftsmen building the National Cathedral, I now have every major story recorded.  

I am so thankful that StoryCorp had this project which inspired me to get my Grandfather recorded - and now it has been enough time that I feel that these stories are no longer just for the family but I can share them now so they can be put in the Library of Congress.

Tomorrow is the National Day of Listening. Record the story of a loved one, interview a friend or just record your own story. I promise it has more life than that moment and may bring great comfort.

Thanksgiving for 1 ---cool blob post

Wandering Chopsticks reviewed all the traditional frozen turkey dinners at the local market. The #1 choice was Marie Callander's, #2 Lean Cuisine, #3 Stouffers. So if you are just doing a pre-Thanksgiving dinner tonight and are hankering for some turkey (I can't imagine this) or you are spending Thanksgiving solo cause you have to work, etc.... check out this review. 

Vision Quest

Went to the eye doctor today. It was a really thorough exam and I walked away knowing a lot of cool stuff - like that I have astigmatism in my left eye, that my floaters are normal AND it takes 15 minutes for my eyes to dilate. Sweet.

Plus I purchased some quality glasses. Very me. Of course my eyes were all whacked out so there's no telling what these specs will actually look like on me in normal circumstances. 

Peace tonight - one more night till Thanksgiving.

Weekend Sketch Challenge #67

I flipped this sketch around because I was in the mood to do it differently. Used the paper that I love from Frances Meyer (one sheet remains!). White glitter paper from DCWV for snow and then a die cut from KI Memories. Rounded it out (literally) with a 2004 Stampin Up sentiment that I turned into an ornament using ribbon from Michaels and voila.... a quickly inspired card.  

I am just getting used to making myself find time to do this and am pleased I was able to carve out some creative moments two Sundays in a row!

Three cool things.

The weekend is sort of closing out - but with three days off work it feels more like a weird holiday WEEK. I have some big projects to work on and I am in the office for two days but it's just the kick off of what I hope will be a very special holiday. A new holiday for me - with the two cutest pups in the *WORLD*.  I have photo documentation of the cuteness of my babies but I can't share Nellie & Gracie's official Christmas pictures till they go out to the masses.

The cool things this weekend.

1) I finished my first scarf that I really like from top to bottom - including binding off of the ends and sewn edges:-)

2) I went to see Bolt and fell in love with Rhino.

3) I received my jewelry order from Black Mountain Gallery - including my chunky necklace that I have wanted for years... that matches my bracelet that is one of my "signature things".  YAY! I opened up my new box with lovely wrapped silver delights and I swear a squealed.

So I am off to see if I can tackle Beate's weekend challenge before I head to bed - I feel like my body is starting to ask for bed but .... just one more artistic project!
